retro videogame meltdown

Steel found an atari flashback 2 for sale in a store a couple weeks ago. Not into the retro gaming culture as he is, I had no idea they'd even made the flashback.  But, like the return of the good luck trolls, the cabbage patch kid, and the furrby, those old style games are back.  Thank goodness the games are built in and not on cartridges, else he'd be hunting those up and moping that he can't buy them all.  ;)  Atari is a bit difficult for Sahara though.

The Generation Nex (by Messiah) is much more her speed.  Suddenly she (and daddy) can play all those old original Nintendo games we still have.  It just got here, and she's in heaven playing faxanadu.  She doesn't care that it's not the latest and greatest in graphic quality.  This girl has the heart of a true gamer - if she can play it, she's happy.  Much like her daddy.   It'll be fun to have those old games out again, and play them together.

I like the Nex, it's styled to look like the old Nintendo with grey box and black stripe, but smaller.  They took the cuteness even to the printing of their manual, cutting it in the shape of a nintendo cartridge, slapping a warning label on the back: "Do not attempt to auction as rare game cartridge.  Do not let your friend use as coaster.  Do not submerse in water.  Do not use to level table.  Do not clean with benzene, thinner, alcohol or other such solvents."

Speaking of auctioning game cartridges... ebay scams run rampant.  On the Gamefaqs message boards a known and respected poster was just outted as purchasing used games, sealing them with a shrink wrapper, then auctioning them off for big bucks as "sealed" games.  Cheated one poor buyer out of $400 that way.  Looks like he made a lot of money doing it.  It's a real shame the depths people will stoop to for $.  And the ideas they come up with to cheat just amaze.  Imagine if this ingenuity was used for good rather than evil.  (lol)

Retro game fans who haven't found it yet might be interested in the Retro Gaming Radio community.  Steel's been having a lot of fun over there on the discussion forums, and gets a lot of entertainment out of the (free) monthly broadcast.  Link here: http://www.retrogamingradio.com/

lmao! :)

I grew up without them, then got into it in the 90s... the videogames and the Dungeons and Dragons stuff at about the same time, and played both with my sisters, so we really broke the demographics all over the place there. (They thought their market was teen boys.)
